CITES Treaty

CITES or the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna is a landmark international treaty which seeks to mitigate the negative effects that high global demand can have on endangered species. While it undoubtedly has had a positive effects and has nurtured international cooperation, the treaty has failed to put an end to the highly profitable and illegal market largely due to weak enforcement measures.
